Achievement Certificates

Achievements Certificate are available to Knitters' Guild NSW members only. Syllabuses for Achievement Certificates may be obtained by contacting the Standards Convener, Mrs Fay Elsworthy, at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . The syllabuses in Knitting & Crochet have been designed to revise and/or introduce a series of techniques moving from fairly simple to more complex. They are meant to be viewed as a learning experience, not a test and are entirely optional.

Feedback is an important part of the Certification process and the Standards Convener is very willing to offer advice and assistance to any member undertaking any of these Achievement Certificates.

Knitting

STAGE 1: $7.50
OVERVIEW: 5 ply & 8 ply tension ladders, using a range of needle sizes to show the effect on tension; texture stitches tension ladder to show how different stitch patterns affect vertical and horizontal tension; 5, 8, & 12 ply tension ladder using one needle size; 5 & 8 ply tension squares; mattress/ladder stitch seam sample;
Techniques sample which includes – rib & cable cast ons, raised, lifted & K into front & back increases, K2 tog. SSK, chain & garter selvedges, introducing a new colour, short row shaping, suspended & three needle cast offs, picking up stitches and casting off in rib.
On successful completion of these techniques a garment, incorporating as many of these techniques as possible, is also required.
On successful completion of Stage 1 a member may choose to proceed to Stage 2.

STAGE 2: $ 7.50
OVERVIEW: Different from Stage 1
3 cast ons, 3 ribs, 2 cast offs; V-neckbands; texture patterns; cables; intarsia; Mosaic/Slip stitch patterns; buttonholes; button bands; simple lace knitting; pair of gloves or socks; grafting.
On successful completion of Stage 2, a member may choose to proceed to Stage 3.

STAGE 3: $15.
OVERVIEW; Stage 3 focuses on traditional Knitting and is divided into Fair Isle, Shetland Lace, Aran and Gansey. A member may choose to do any or all sections of the Syllabus. As well as samples and articles each section of the Syllabus requires a brief history of that form of knitting.

CROCHET

STAGE 1: $7.50
OVERVIEW:
Yarn: Tension ladder using a number of hook sizes; crab stitch; tension square; picot edging; ladder using a variety of stitches; granny squares; treble squares; joining squares with different seams; circle motif; shell stitch edging; hexagon motif; Baltic square; bobble stitch; technique sample incorporating rib basque, increasing & decreasing; article worked from pattern.
Thread: coaster or doily.
On successful completion of Stage 1, a member may choose to proceed to Stage 2.

STAGE 2: $10.
OVERVIEW:
Yarn: Edge stitch variations; surface crochet; puff stitches; spikes; relief stitches; ribs; using more than one colour; intarsia picture sample; 2 articles.
Thread: Basic filet crochet; filet crochet with increasing and decreasing; circle motif worked from symbols; flower & picot - Irish type crochet; joining motifs with filet motif; doily/ milk jug cover in filet crochet; handkerchief edging.
