SEARCH TIPS

  • Remember - computers aren't as smart as people!
  • Use the words that are most likely to appear on the page
  • You don't have to type out a whole question
  • Put in location if it's relevant (or possibly limit to specific country)
  • Case and punctuation are usually ignored
  • Use double-quotes to indicate a specific phrase
  • Use a minus sign (-) before any words you want to leave out
  • Use OR for optional words (otherwise all words are used)

SAFE SHOPPING ONLINE

  • Before buying: check contact details; check reputation/feedback; check shipping & returns policy
  • When ordering: look for SSL padlock and https in address; use credit card instead of debit; use generic email address
  • Be wary of computers you don't own or trust (libraries, internet cafes) and remember to log out!
