A Very Successful Silver Anniversary Camp 2011

opening night common room at camp

A room full of happy knitters on the opening night of the Guild's 2011 Camp at historic Kurri Kurri in the Hunter Valley. One of the two chief organisers, Eleanor Goldfinch, can be seen in the centre. The other organiser, Anne Moore, must have been working off-camera at the time. The two of them put in an immense amount of work to make it a well-run and hugely enjoyable October long week-end. Even the kangaroos out on the lawns contributed to the inspiring atmosphere.

The Kurri Kurri TAFE staff made us all welcome and the hard-working folk who took the workshops need more than praise: Terry Scott, Lynne Byass, Val Quarmby, Sue Wise, Fiona Donovan and Yvonne Fazzolari. We all learned something new. Leanne Barratt came from Gloucester to talk about her up-coming project " Yarning our Country" at the Gallery there, and some kind souls made delicious eatables for break times. The social knitters in the lounge had a TV but the football went almost unnoticed. And for at least two people who arrived with the odd virus or two, the plethora of kind remedies, and the knitting, worked wonders.

So much knitting was done, and exchange of ideas, there was little time for photos to prove it all ever happened. The images are all in the happy memories of the participants.

Below is one example of Terry Scott's own colour work, a participant's attempts at his invisible cast on and off and colour work, and either side of a double sided leaf pattern for a scarf which Yvonne charted from a traditional pattern demonstrated from memory by Maria Catanzaro who is now very nearly blind and a much respected member of the Epping Group.

The real evidence for the success of the week-end is in the knitting each person attending took back to their own home groups, and their happy and friendly memories.
