Kurrajong Handspun Crafts are a friendly, informal group meeting weekly in the Hawkesbury District to share skills and information on all aspects of spinning, weaving, dyeing, knitting, crochet and felting and to increase knowledge and interest in textiles. Members use natural fibres such as wool, alpaca, mohair, cotton, silk, etc. and experiment with many manufactured and synthetic fibres (bamboo, soy, tencel etc.), either in natural colours or hand-dyed, blending for interesting textures. The group demonstrates its skills at many local events as well as organising the Australian Spinning Competition each year at Hawkesbury District Agricultural Assoc. Show.
The group are hosting two notable events in Autumn 2009:
- The Australian wide Scarf Exchange for 2009 (fibre to be in by May 1st) and
- The International Back to Back Wool Challenge in the Sydney area (at the Turpentine Tree at Kurrajong Heights on Sunday May 31st... great for an outing!).
You can get more information on their website.
