Member’s Perspective of Knitters Guild’s 40th Anniversary Celebration

by Robynn Ross (Southern Highlands Group - Mittagong)

On Saturday, 2nd of May, 2026, The NSW Knitters Guild held their 40th Anniversary celebrations at the City Tattersalls Club in Sydney.

Following a quick and well organized AGM where every position was filled due to the commitment of some brilliant volunteers, we welcomed Patricia McGregor (Pittwater group) as a Life Member (making 13) and 5 more fabulous people were gifted with a Star Award (making 11 in total).

For those members who are relatively new to the KG, we have over 1000 NSW members in 26 groups, each run by a committee of three. Bringing these groups together means we need other members to teach, edit the magazine, write lesson plans and emails, answer calls, liaise with professionals, work with the media, host websites, plan social media, organise camps and festivals etc. This ensures that YOU, the members, have access to tutors, festivals, camps and other groups while enjoying professional communication via our A Good Yarn publication every quarter and AKGBytes, our emailed monthly newsletter. This does not happen by accident. Life Membership and the Star Awards recognise special people every year, who go far beyond their initial commitment to make the Guild a wonderful group of positive artisans and crafters who uplift and inspire others to learn and pass the knowledge on. Consider how your input could benefit the KG.

Lunch was divine. The company was lively, with lots of sharing, showing and hugging. Many people travelled distances to attend and meet up with friends from the past. We were introduced to several original members and had time listening to the daughter of our founder, Margot Chick who relayed her mother’s vision for the guild. (Shock factor: Guess who does not knit or crochet!)

So much effort went into the organization of this lunch. Personally, I want to thank the Executive for the preparation and setting up, the surprise gift at our places and the sourcing of the yummiest cupcake dessert with the KG emblem icing. Thank you also for the gift of woven badges for each of our members which we will distribute at our next meeting.
